O holandês Roeland Otten mora na mesma cidade que eu, Rotterdam e fez uma coleção de cadeiras com a forma das 26 letras do alfabeto.
O projeto chamada ABChairs.

Como ele mesmo diz: 'um alfabeto para sentar e cadeiras para escrever'.

The Dutch Roeland Otten live in the same city as me, Rotterdam. He made a collection of 26 chairs with the shape of the alphabet letters.
It’s called the ABChair.
Like he says: ‘an alphabet to sit on and chairs to form words with’.

Amor de mãe / Mother's Love

Estive muito ocupada na última semana com o aniversário do meu filho e por isso o sumiço.
Aqui onde eu moro as crianças para comemorarem o aniversário na escola levam 2 bolos, um para comerem na classe com os amigos e o outro para os professores, escute bem, para todos os professores da escola!
Na tradição holandesa o aniversariante vai em cada classe da escola e oferece um pedaço de bolo aos professores. É a chamada ‘traktatie’.
Em outras palavras, eu preparei 25 mini bolos e 25 lembrancinhas para as crianças da classe e mais 26 cookies para os professores.
Foi uma semana cheia mas também muito gostosa. Sol, calor e claro, o prazer de ver meu filho chegar todo orgulhoso na escola com os quitutes.
Quando vi aqueles olhinhos brilhando, ouvi ‘obrigado mae!’ e ganhei um beijo apertado, esqueci todo o resto.

I was very very busy last week with my son's birthday and that’s why I disappear.
Here where I live, the kids use to celebrate their birthday at school with two cakes. One to eat in the class with the other kids, and other to give to the teachers. I mesan to all teachers in the school!
In the Dutch tradition the kid goes to each class and offers a piece of cake to the teachers. It's called ‘traktatie’.
In other words, I made 25 mini cakes and gifts to 25 kids from his class and more 26 cookies for the teachers.
It was a full week but also very nice. Lovely weather and a happy kid, very proud of the goodies he was bringing to school to share with his friends.
And when I saw those little eyes shinning and got a goodbye kiss after a ‘thanks maam’, I forgot the rest.

Eu uso óculos!

Yves Béhar fundador do escritório de design Fuseproject fez uma parceria com o governo Mexicano para implantar o projeto ‘See beter to learn better’.
11% das crianças mexicanas vão mal na escola porque não enxergam bem.
O problema envolve o custo e o preconceito do uso de óculos. A idéia é resolver os dois lados da questão.
Usando um tipo de plástico quase inquebrável e dividindo a armação em 2 partes, as crianças vão escolher e montar um óculos personalizado e divertido.
O tipo da armação também facilita o encaixe e a substituição das lentes reduzindo o custo final do produto.
O programa pretende distribuir 300.000 óculos por ano.
Por trás dessas lentes tem um cara legal!

Yves Béhar from Fuseproject in partnership with the Mexican governament has created cool glasses for kids as part of the program ‘See better to learn better’.
11% of kids in Mexicans don’t learn well becouse they can’t see.

The problem is compounded by the stigma of wearing glasses together with the high cost to afford them. The idea is to solve both sides of the issue.

Using an advanced kind of plastic almost unbreakable and dividing the frames into 2 parts, the kids can choose and assemble their own glasses making the whole experience fun and personal.
The 2 parts frames allow the lenses to be easily inserted what also bring the costs down.
The program aims to distribute 300.000 glasses a year.
There’s a cool guy behind those lenses…

Elas se encontraram no metro.
‘Uma’ adorou a meia da ‘outra’. A ‘outra’ perguntou se a ‘uma’ podia fazer um vestido para ela.
Assim começou ‘The Uniform Project’. Uma idéia generosa que pretende ajudar crianças que moram em favelas na Índia a irem para escola. Como?
Sheena Matheiken esta usando a quase um ano o mesmo vestido e mudando somente os acessórios. Com isso ela pretende incentivar as pessoas a consumirem menos, reciclarem mais e a fazerem doações em dinheiro para o Akanksha Foundation.
O bacana aqui é que este não é apenas um exercício narcisista do tipo ‘olhem para mim, eu sou criativa e cool’. O projeto tem engajamento político, ecológico e gera mudanças socias.

They met on the subway.
'One' loved the socks that the 'other' had on. The 'other' asked if the 'one' could make a dress for her.
So began 'The Uniform Project'. A generous idea that will help kids living in slums in India to go to school..How?
Sheena Matheiken is wearing the same dress for almost a year, only changing the accessories. With that she wants to encourage people to consume less, to recycle more and to make donations to the Akanksha Foundation.
The cool thing here is that this is not a narcissistic exercise like 'look at me, I'm creative and cool'. The project has political and ecological engagement and generates social changes.

Motel Mozaïque

Apesar de não ter visto nada surpreendente, foi muito bom ter ido no Motel Mozaïque este ano novamente.
É sempre bom sair com o Stevan e encontrar nossos amigos.
Começamos num antigo cafe no centro de Rotterdam.
The Motel Mozaïque night was a lot of fun but I didn’t see anything that really took my breath away.
Still was very nice to go out with Stevan and our friends.
We first went for a drink in an old cafe in het centrum van Rotterdam.

Depois encontramos a Cleo e fomos voando para o primeiro show.
Than we meet Cleo and went ‘flying’ to the first show…

Pausa no chill out do Schouwburg…
It was very nice to chill out at the Schouwburg.

Alguns shows mais tarde, quando já estavamos cansados pegamos nossos casacos e voltamos para casa.
And when we were finally tired we took our coat and went home

O designer americano Yves Béhar da Fuseproject criou uma nova embalagem para os produtos da marca Puma.
Meio sacola e meio caixa de sapato a nova maneira de levar o seu tênis novo para casa usa 65% menos papelão do que uma caixa de sapato comum.
As mudança não param por ai. Desta vez você também não vai ver aquele papel dentro da caixa que separa o calçado e a embalagem não usa a camada plastificada do lado de fora para imprimir o logo ou o nome do produto.
Chamada de Clever Little Bag, o novo produto utiliza uma sacola feita de material reciclado que não utiliza costura (é fechada com um sistema de cola quente) e 1 único pedaço de papelão que dá a estrutura da caixa. Isso significa uma queda de 8.500 toneladas no consumo de papel.
Na produção, o efeito é de uma economia de 1 milhão de litros de água e na distribuição 500.000 litros de diesel.
Fora que acaba a necessidade daquela sacola que normalmente você precisa ter para levar a caixa para casa. E isso significa uma economia de 275 toneladas de plástico.
A mudança parece pequena mas o impacto é sem dúvida gigante.

The american designer Yves Béhar of Fuseproject has created a new packaging for footwear brand Puma.
Half a bag and half a box the new way to take your Puma’s shoe home will use 65% less cardboard than a standard shoe box.
The changes doesn’t stop there. This time you will also not see the tissue paper inside and the box has no laminated printing outside.
Called Clever Little Bag, the new product consists of a recycled bag stichted with heat and one flat-pack cardboard tray that provides the structure.
This means 8.500 tones less paper consumed.
During the production 1 million liters less fuel oil will be used and 1 million liters water conserved.
During transport 500.000 liters of diesel will be saved.
And more, now you don’t need the plastic bag to put your shoe box in. And that means 275 tons of less plastic in the world.
The change seems to be small but the impact is undoubtedly huge.

A influência da Lua em nosso planeta e até em nosso corpo já foi bem maior quando a dependência entre o homen e a natureza era essencial para garantir a sua sobrevivência.

The Emotion Lab, um estúdio em Barcelona, criou um relógio chamado MoonWatch.
A idéia é estabelecer um novo conceito de tempo baseado na natureza e convidar as pessoas a refazerem a ligação entre o que acontece fora e dentro delas mesmas.
Por que não?

The Moon’s influence on our planet and even in our body was much closer when the dependence between people and nature was bigger and many times essential to ensure their survival.
Agriculture, fertility, patterns of behaviour, labour, tides and many other things have been associated with different phases of the Moon.
Unfortunately the connection between man and nature only became more distant in the last centuries.
Some children think that the chicken they eat for supper was born in the supermarket…other people live in cities that are so polluted that they can not see stars or the Moon itself in the sky at night.
The Emotion Lab, a studio in Barcelona, created a watch called Moonwatch.
The idea is to establish a new concept of time based on nature that invites people to rebuild their connection between what happens outside and within themselves.

Malcom McLaren

Ele ficou famoso por ter sido o produtor e o nome por trás da histórica banda punk Sex Pistols.
Com sua namorada da época, Vivienne Westwood, abriu uma loja nos anos 70 na Kings Road, Londres, chamada Sex e juntos ditaram moda.
Depois de uma longa luta contra um câncer, Malcom McLaren faleceu na última sexta-feira aos 64 anos.
Ouvi a notícia no rádio, quando estava levando meu filho na escola.
Voltei para casa, coloquei uma das minhas faixas favoritas do álbum KissThis, My way, e me lembrei de uma foto dele com Vivienne que ficou anos na parede em frente a minha mesa de trabalho.
Muita luz para você, Malcom.

He became famous for being the producer and the name behind the historical punk band Sex Pistols.
With his girlfriend at the time, Vivienne Westwood, he opened a shop on Kings Road, London, called Sex. Together they changed fashion history.
After a long struggle against cancer, Malcom McLaren died last Friday. He was 64 years old.
I heard the news on the radio while I was dropping my son at school.
I went home, put one of my favorite tracks from the album Kiss This, My way, and remembered a picture of him with Vivianne wich was for many many years in the wall, in front of my desk, where I use to work.

Power Flower

Tonkin Liu criou esta flor de metal gigante para um projeto de regeneração da beira do rio Mersey, Widney, Englaterra.
A flor de 14 metros tem pétalas feitas de metal galvanizado e a noite é iluminada por lâmpadas LED que utilizam energia heólica produzida por pequenas turbinas instaladas na própria flor.
Espero que outras idéias como essa se espalhem pelos campos.

Tonkin Liu created a gigant metal flower as part of a regeneration project for the waterfront at Widney, near the river Mersey in England.
The 14 meter high bloom has giant petals of perforated galvanized steel that at night gets iluninated by LED lights powered by small wind turbines
I hope that more from those ideas can be spread through the fields.

Motel Mozaïque 2010

Este final de semana tem Motel Mozaïque aqui em Rotterdam.
Para quem não leu aqui antes, este é um Festival que mistura música, teatro, dança, cinema e artes plásticas.
O Motel Mozaíque tem ainda um detalhe interessante. Aqueles que não querem voltar para casa nas noites de sexta e sábado, podem literalmente dormir no festival. Em camas espalhadas por lugares imprevisíveis e inusitados na cidade.

Eu ganhei os ingressos de presente no meu aniversário e vou lá conferir.
Quero muito ver o show do Fink e este grupo de dança.
Depois conto como foi…

This weekend there’s Motel Mazaïque here in Rotterdam.
For those who haven’t read about it here before, this is a Festival that mixes music, theatre, dance, films and art.
There’s is also a special detail: for those who not want to go home during the weekend, MMozaïque offers beds in unusual places in the city and you can literally sleep in the festival.
I got the tickets for my birthday and I’ll go check.
Definite I want to see Fink and this dance group.
