Low Lands 2010

A sensação da ‘world music’do momento. Staff Benda Bilili.

End of august I went to my favorite music festival here in Hollanda: Low Lands.
I already wrote a huge post talking about the festival here at the blog. Take a look at it here.
This year I saw some shows of consecrated famous bands like Groove Armada, Massive Attack, Air, The Specials, Snow Patrol but I also had the pleasure to hear again the icelandic Sigur Rós, this time with a more orchestral band called Jónsi, and to dance once more with the cheerful brit duo The Ting Thing.
And of course I discovered new things…I mean, new to me.
The new yorker band LCD Soundsystem and their dance punk performance was in my opinion the best surprise of the festival.
I also enjoyed the eletronic pop of Hot Chip, the eighties beat of Yeasaver and the melancholy songs of The National and the incredible swing of an african band made only by paraplegics. A sad story that they manage to transform into a big party. The ‘worldmusic’ sensation of the moment, Staff Benda Bilili.
I put several links for you. So have fun and if you feel like, just stand up and dance a little!

Casacampamento / Mixed idea

Tenthouse, this is the name given to a house that is actually a tent.
The idea is to have the same experience as if you would be in a tent but than inside a house.
The walls are made of canvas, there is no eletricity and if you need water you must first fill a container that is above de sink. But it has a kitchen, a living room and a bedroom with bunk beds.
It’s a spartan house in the positive sense of the word, and is 100 meters from the beach.
In the winter the tenthouse is disassembled and the structure remains covered by a sailing cloth. The interor pieces goes to a storage and wait until next season.

Lazy Watch

The holidays were good, travel, friends, nature and a lot of baths in the river.
But here where I live, the children will return next week to school and everything will start again.
For me the best definition of 'being on holiday' is when I begin to notice that my relationship with ‘time’ changed.
The time: this abstract measure that we created to organize ourselves, to do things or to wait for some other things to happen…
Time, as Caetano Veloso said, 'the drumer for all rhythms, is one of the most beautiful gods'.
On my vacation the days seem to be long, there is no need to hurry and sometimes I even forget to count the hours.
That’s why I loved it when I saw this watch.
I thought it was the perfect post to re-start the blog, to make the transition between the time that doesn’t need to be measured and the time to be here again.
I am happy to be back.
